Balikbayan boxes are never just a box. it is a promise, a gift, and more importantly a chance to bond with loved ones across vast distances. Because of this reason, a balikbayan box's arrival is a much anticipated and often celebrated affair. The Balikbayan box industry began just as migrant Filipinos began flowing into North America, East Asia, the Middle East, and Europe during the 80s as willful Filipinos sought better employment opportunities and built new lives in their adopted countries.
Despite their hectic often very busy lives, it is always was very hard to ignore their loved ones back home waiting for a piece of the dream and the desire to answer the promise to send or even bring back a little token of their hard-won victories back home and share it with everyone around.
